On first start the launcher downloads the game: about 1.2 GB over the wire, 1.5 GB on disk. If it is interrupted, the next start carries on where it stopped.

How to install
  1. Start the EPICMU-Launcher you downloaded. If Windows says "Windows protected your PC", press More info, then Run anyway: the launcher has no paid code signature.
  2. The launcher installs itself into C:\Games\EPICMU and puts a shortcut on your desktop.
  3. It downloads the game and starts it. From then on start the game from the shortcut: the launcher updates it every time.

How to install
  1. Unpack the archive into a folder in your home directory and start the launcher: 
    mkdir -p ~/Games/EpicMu
tar -xzf EPICMU-Launcher-linux64-1.4.15-ece0a026.tar.gz -C ~/Games/EpicMu
cd ~/Games/EpicMu
./Launcher
  2. The archive already marks Launcher executable. If the shell still says "Permission denied", run chmod +x Launcher once.
  3. The launcher downloads the game and starts it, and updates it on every start. Do not copy the game folder through a FAT, exFAT or NTFS drive: file names that differ only in case merge into one there.

The app is not signed by Apple, so on first start macOS asks you to allow it once. How to do that is in "How to install", step 3.

How to install
  1. Download EPICMU-Launcher-mac-1.4.15-066f6b77.tar.gz. Safari unpacks it by itself; otherwise double-click the file. You get "EPICMU Launcher.app".
  2. Make a folder for the game, for example EPICMU in your home folder, and drag the app into it in Finder. The game (about 1.7 GB) installs next to the app, so not Downloads and not the Desktop.
  3. First start: the app is not notarized, so macOS warns once. On macOS 15 Sequoia and newer open System Settings > Privacy & Security, find "EPICMU Launcher was blocked" and click Open Anyway. On macOS 12-14 right-click the app, choose Open, then Open again. After that a normal double-click is enough.
  4. The launcher installs the game by itself and later updates both the game and itself. One app for every Mac, Apple Silicon or Intel, no Rosetta.

Do not start the launcher before you have moved it in Finder: macOS would run it from a temporary read-only copy, and the launcher stops rather than install the game next to something that disappears.

The phone asks once to allow installs from the browser - allow it, and the game installs like any other app. On first start it downloads its data by itself: about 1.5 GB, plus about 750 MB of HD textures, so Wi-Fi is the better choice. Later updates arrive inside the game, with no reinstall.

About the Android version

The same game as on a computer: the same server, the same characters and the same account.

If Android says "App not installed"
  1. Download EPICMU Installer: it finds the cause and shows how to fix it. EPICMU Installer (recommended) →
  2. Remove the old EPICMU first. If EPICMU is already on the phone - an older version, or a copy from another source - open Settings > Apps > EPICMU > Uninstall, then install the downloaded file again. This is the most common cause.
  3. Download the file again over Wi-Fi. The current file is 77.4 MB - if the downloaded one is smaller, the download was cut off.
  4. Samsung phones: turn off Auto Blocker for the installation (Settings > Security and privacy > Auto Blocker), then turn it back on afterwards.
  5. Keep at least 3 GB free: on the first start the game downloads about 2.3 GB of data.
  6. EPICMU needs Android 8.0 or newer on a 64-bit phone.
