New Reset System

New Reset System

Hello everyone,

I’d like to talk about the recent change to the reset system.

Before, the Daily Points cost of a reset grew with the number of resets you already had: the more resets, the more points each next one required. Now every reset costs just 1 Daily Point, no matter how many resets you have, and 5 Daily Points are given every day.

My first concern is that this was done without any warning. Many players had planned their progress around the old system, and some were going to reset tomorrow. A heads-up in the news section would have let everyone prepare.

The bigger problem is the effect on the game. Since the point cost is now flat, resets are limited mostly by how much Zen you can farm. That means the players who gain the most are those with many twins and those who run 5 windows at once. A person who plays one character, even a very active one, simply cannot keep up. The game is slowly turning into a pure Zen farm.

It would be great if such serious changes could be announced in advance, at least a couple of days before they go live. That way everyone can plan their progress and the community stays on the same page.

I’d love to hear what other players and the administration think about this.

Thank you!

Thank you for the feedback. A few things need to be said.

The game has a tutorial, and the website explains the reset system and Daily Points in detail. Many players never read any of it, and then complain that they don’t have enough points to keep progressing at the same pace as everyone else. That is exactly why the change came right away, a couple of hours before the update: so nobody was left stuck because of points.

For some reason almost every player assumed that these points don’t add up, for a reason they made up themselves. They do: unspent points are never lost and carry over to the next resets. Now players will see it for themselves, every single day.

About twins: they are a part of every online game. It has always been like this and always will be, and there is nothing anyone can do about it. But if players don’t want to do daily quests, don’t want to farm Zen and don’t want to do anything else the game asks for, what is the point of playing at all?

When players came to the server, the reset price and Daily Points were already there, on the website for everyone to read. Nobody hid this information from players. But players never meant to read it, and that is why we had to take tough measures.

Thank you for the detailed reply, and for clarifying that unspent points carry over, that’s useful to know.

I agree that a game should ask something from its players, and I’m not against daily quests or farming. My concern is the balance. When the only thing that limits your resets is Zen, the game can easily turn into nothing but Zen farming, and everything else (events, PvP, bosses, exploring) becomes secondary.

Maybe a good compromise would be to keep 1 Daily Point per reset only up to around the 40th-45th reset. That would let everyone catch up with the leaders during the early stage. But once the 50-reset threshold opens and everyone moves further, a flat cost means it’s simply Zen farming and nothing else.

Thanks again for listening.

Players, a correction about the daily point requirement for resets.

The wrong version of the reset table went out with the update. In that file, every reset from the first to the last asked for just 1 daily point. That was not the intended change, and it has now been corrected.

The site builds its reset table straight from the server’s file, so the site showed the same wrong numbers. That is why the mistake was not caught right away.

The change only applies to resets 0 to 14: they now ask for 1 daily point each, where before they asked for none. From reset 15 onwards nothing has changed, and the requirement is exactly what it was before the update. It is 1 point for resets 15-29, 2 for resets 30-44, and so on, up to 14 at the top.

The full table is on the site: https://epicmu.online/info?article=reset-system

To be honest, I’m starting to mess up badly. At the same time, players keep writing to support that they didn’t know about daily points, that the Chaos Machine on the site is cheating them, and they even ask how to change the screen resolution. I keep getting distracted trying to answer everyone, and in the end I make blunders like this one with the reset table.

Thanks for the quick correction, Monday, and for being open about it. Good to know the original system stays from reset 15 onward. If a table change is ever planned, a short note in the news section beforehand would help everyone, but I understand mistakes happen.

No, this was simply my mistake: lack of sleep, and no chance to focus on one thing at a time. I promised you an update today, but I’m already delaying it, and it will most likely only be ready by morning.

Why is that? I don’t want to disturb you or the server with extra restarts, especially on weekdays. So from Monday to Friday a lot of work goes on, and it is released on the night from Friday to Saturday. If any errors show up on the live server, they get fixed then, so that the working days stay balanced for all of us. That is how it will be from now on. At other times, only changes that don’t need a full server restart may be applied.

Unfortunately, some things were not discovered during the OBT, which lasted a month, and for some things we had a different idea back then. Now the goal is to make the game something that brings you only enjoyment.
